Panama Geography

Panama is located on the narrowest and lowest part of the Isthmus of Panama. Panama lies in Middle America, bordering both the Caribbean Sea and the North Pacific Ocean, between Colombia and Costa Rica. The country is divided into nine provinces. The provinces are divided into districts, which in turn are subdivided into sections called corregimientos. The land of Panama is full of mountain ranges, hills, highlands and plateaus. The highest peak of the country is the Volcan de Chiriqui. The flora and fauna of Panama are rich and diverse. The climate is mostly hot and dry, desert-like. It is temperate in the northwest and arctic in the north. The mountainous regions are characterized by heavy rainfalls throughout the year.
